Emma Chamberlain CTA TEP OBE is a barrister and a Partner in JHAB.  She is renowned for her extensive expertise in private client taxation, trusts, and wealth structuring. She is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in her field with comprehensive experience advising on Inheritance Tax (IHT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), non-doms and complex trust arrangements.

Emma is co-chair of the Chartered Institute of Taxation Private Client International Committee and is a member of the STEP Technical Committee.  She has been involved in advising on various HM Treasury and HMRC initiatives including IHT changes and the Statutory Residence Test.  In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded an OBE in 2017 for services to government tax policy.

Beyond her legal practice, Emma is a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics. She is the co-author of several authoritative texts, such as “Trust Taxation & Estate Planning” (5th Edition), Sweet & Maxwell (March 2024) and “Pre-Owned Assets and Estate Planning (3rd Edition)“, Sweet and Maxwell, (2009).  Emma regularly contributes to professional journals, including the British Tax Review and Tax Adviser, and is known for her clear and practical insights into complex tax issues.

Emma is ranked as a Star Individual in Chambers & Partners for Tax: Private Client, and in Band 1 of Leading Juniors in Legal 500 for Tax: Personal.
